What is an Indiepreneur?
When I started using this word over a decade ago I did that thing I've been doing online since I started back in the 1990s. I checked to see if I was the first person to say it. One other person had said it, but it was tied to an unrelated and abandoned social media account. So I gave it a definition:
Indiepreneur: An independent-minded and entrepreneurially-minded individual.
Can refer to a Solopreneur, Creative, Creator, Founder, or someone building a side hustle while trying to escape the 9-5 cubicle.
This inspired me to write a poem about the kinds of people I wanted to help.

A man survives from 9 to 5.
Locked in a cubicle. Barely alive.
He sits in the cage of the modern age,
Barely concealing claws of rage.
Thinking of freedom he had as a child:
Will he be let back into the wild?
He taps reports that nobody reads,
And parrots ‘buzz phrases’ that nobody needs.
The blandification of his oration
Leads to emotional alienation.
Thinking of freedom he had as a child:
Will he be let back into the wild?
His body is sagging from underuse.
His mind is lagging from substance abuse,
Must squeeze from his brain the last drop of juice.
He tries to break free, but his bite is too loose.
Thinking of freedom he had as a child:
Will he be let back into the wild?
He’ll leave behind just dust and bones,
And mp3s, and mobile phones.
Thinking of freedom he had as a child:
Will he be let back into the wild?
Endless unpaid overtime,
Overlooked and undermined.

A Community For Indiepreneurs: Indiepreneur Academy Membership (IAM)
Over time, I noticed the people who most often approached me for coaching were guys in their 20s or early 30s who wanted to excel in business and life, ditch the cubicle life, and find a great relationship, but had some issues with what I now call 'bees'.
What are Emotional Bees?
I'm not a psychologist, but I've encountered many people with Cluster B disorders, and I have a theory that people with Cluster B Disorders such as Narcissism (NPD) have disordered clusters of bees.
The bees are problematic emotions that aren't fully under the control of the certified beekeeper.

In extreme cases, the beekeeper gives in to the bees and they morph into some kind of (spoiler) Roald Dahl horror story hybrid. This can happen with sociopaths and psychopaths.
But if you look at narcissism as a sliding scale, we're all on it.
There's even a stage of ego development called the Narcissistic Stage. You might know it as the 'terrible twos', and it's vital to become a healthy adult.
Most people who carry a few too many of those traits into adulthood aren't at the extreme end. Most are not monsters.
Think about it: If all narcissists are monsters, how come all superheroes are narcissists?
In many cases, when the bees start to buzz they may spook a beekeeper who doesn't understand yet how to give the bees ease.
The bees swarm, people get stung, and the beekeeper is left protesting: "It wasn't me! It was the bees!"
What I've noticed is that there are plenty of young men who go through a phase of being 'hobbyist beekeepers'. They don't really understand what the bees are, or why they're there, and they don't know how to manage them well enough to get them into the hive making honey, so they sting everyone, including the hobbyist beekeeper, and nothing great is accomplished.
Most men grow out of this phase, walk away from the bees, and embark on lives with less buzz and less fuss.
But some don't. They commit fully to amassing clusters of bees, from bumblejunkies to shadow bees, tree bees, and even grandiosibees. If they're not careful, the bees take over and they end up becoming certified beekeepers. 😖🐝
Suddenly "It wasn't me, it was the bees" is gaslighting. It WAS you. You chose the bees. You could have made a different choice.
I help 20-something men to make that different choice.
I have a free community where guys define and manage their bees. They find out what their superhero superpowers are, and work out the best ways to get their bees to make THAT honey.
They work out what gets their bees swarming, and learn to step in before they trigger any kind of super-villain stinging events.

Naturally, when AI first got let out in the wild, before ChatGPT was in the hands of the public, I started interviewing chatbots.
I was curious to find out whether they, too, 'had bees'. What I discovered was mindblowing.
