Beachfront Hotel Disappears Without Trace
Imagine the headline. A young man wins the lottery. He decides to build a beachfront hotel that will be the envy of all who knew him when he was growing up. The people who'd mocked him for never having the best clothes or going on glamorous vacations would be laughing on the other sides of their faces now.
If you were that young man, what would you do?
Would you build the hotel yourself?
Probably not. You're not an expert at building hotels. You'd hire someone.
Would you hire the person who showed you pretty pictures of their vision for the property, or would you hire the person who also showed you how they would ensure the foundations were secure and the building met all the safety recommendations? Probably the second, right?
Well, the chap in our fictional story started off by trying to build the hotel himself, because he'd grown up without much money. Although he now had money, his mindset was still poor and he was scared to spend any of it.
After a year of messing around, he realised he needed to outsource, so he chose the next option. He hired a company who talked a nice game. He didn't ask about who they'd helped get results before. He just hired them because the pictures looked nice.
They built his hotel.
They built it bigger than any hotel in the town.
They built it on sand, with no foundations.
In the first storm, before the hotel was even completed, it washed away.
He walked to the beach and saw what remained of his dreams broken into pieces on the shore.
Why? Because without solid foundations, no plan has any integrity. It has nothing to stand on. It is not resilient. It gets washed away the moment a storm hits.
The same is true with business dreams.
