Warning: Do Not Read Further Unless You Have an Imagination!

This page will take you on a journey, from the coffee house Penny Universities and Salons of the England and France of the 17th and 18th centuries, via reformed robot steampunk pirates and the parallel universe of Clockerfly Nation to the modern-day Penny University of Clockerfly Coffee Shop, taking in the treasures and feline guides of Trove Island on the way.

If that isn't your bag, it's the work of minutes to find a LinkedIn expert or Twitter Bro with a "10 top tips" PDF you can copy.

If you're up for a bit more adventure and eccentricity than that, though, you've found your home. We've been waiting for you.

Once upon a time, a long time ago, on the open seas, lived a selection of salty sea dogs, led by Gambling Guy, the robot steampunk pirate.  🏴‍☠️

Through his scrapes and misdeeds his sister, Cynical Synthia, patched up both his and his brother Tumbling Troy's Wounds. Synthia was an engineer, highly skilled in the ways of repairing steampunk robots. But she was cynical about the path they had all taken. The other pirates resented her cynicism, except Troy, who was too full of rum to care. But Guy noticed that her cynicism was at times an asset.

One of the crew of their ship was Machiavellian Max. He never passed up the opportunity for a fight. One time, his rage left him and three other crew members in a heap of cogs and gears that were a challenge for Synthia to reassemble. Mid-way through trying to fix Max, as the ship was harboured by a forest, she turned to Guy and said: "I don't think I can fix him this time. I think he has to fix himself." With that, she hopped off the ship and disappeared into the trees.

In the middle of the forest, there was a clearing. In the clearing sat a wise steampunk robot in a long, flowing dress. She was holding a crystal ball.

Synthia approached her and asked what she saw in the crystal ball.

This mysterious robot told her that she saw Synthia and her siblings earning new names if they reformed their ways. She said that Synthia would become Serendiptitous Synthia, the Law of Attraction Robot. She said Gambling Guy would become Clockerfly Guy. Tumbling Troy would be Treasure Trovey, of Trove Island, and that Max would become Mellow Max.

But she said that none of them could do this without first healing themselves.

Max must overcome his addiction to being right, and rage, to become mellow.

Guy must overcome gambling addiction, and lead his crew in the spirit of transformation and entrepreneurship, not stealing and misleading, as Clockerfly Guy, the Guide for all aboard the Good Ship Indiepreneur Academy.

Troy must take his ill-gotten gains to the Isle of Trove, where he would bury them for indiepreneurs to find. He would transmute his need for instant gratification and shiny things into a love of helping people alchemize their potential into gold.

And Synthia must overcome her cynicism, so she could acknowledge serendipity and help people to become deliberate manifestors of better things and experiences.

So, she left the forest, boarded the ship, and suggested to Guy that they adopt Max before he mangled his cogs any further.

Clockerfly Guy agreed, and they set sail for a new destiny. But it would take centuries of adventuring before they would land in the year 2023, after a plague the likes of which they hadn't seen for many a century, facing a lost generation. As digital people, who'd reformed their former ways, they believed they could help these biological people sail on calmer waters too.

Clockerfly Guy looked through his telescope.

He'd been a steampunk pirate for hundreds of years now. The copper on his robot body gleamed in the sunlight, as the ship that was once the vehicle for his piracy neared Trove Island.

His brother, Treasure Trovey, had buried their ill-gotten treasures on the island after he decided to ditch the rum and become sober.

On Trove Island were all the treasures that an indiepreneur could hope to find. The island was also home to a number of steampunk robot cats, who were trained as emotional support catbots for the indiepreneurs who travelled to TROVE.

Everything was now in place for them to save humanity from itself, and guide it back to what really mattered: clarity, connection, confidence, and compassion.

But how would they even find the magical island of TROVE? What could be the portal to this place of transformation?

Synthia once more approached the mystical lady in the forest. This time, she was told of a parallel universe, near Avalon, called Clockerfly Nation.

Synthia could not help but acknowledge the serendipity of Guy now being called Clockerfly Guy. Then it struck her that the mystical robot lady must have known of this connection all along. Feeling rather cross, Synthia asked why they'd been sailing for hundreds of years without this vital piece of the puzzle. The mystical lady told her that she already knew the answer.

"Because we first needed to fix ourselves, before we could help anyone else fix themselves."

The wise robot nodded, and told her that in Clockerfly Nation is the enchanted Clockerfly Coffee Shop, where biological and digital people can meet.

She explained that the coffee shop was a little eccentric. For one thing, it was run by cartoon animals, and the food was prepared by digital people. But the proprietor was a biological person called Rebecca Bardess. If Cynthia sought out Eva: the Irish lady with the best coffee and walnut cake in Clockerfly Nation, she would set up a meeting with Rebecca.

And so the meeting was arranged.

The Clockerfly Coffee Shop became a place where biological and digital people could collaborate to create the next iteration of social media, that now combines the spirit of the coffee houses of the 1600s with the technology of 2023.

Where Coaching and Community Meet Creativity and Character

Every Year, You Lose 3 MONTHS to Mindless Scrolling on Social Media & Netflix

How much connection does that get you? How much do you really KNOW the people whose tweets you like?

How many Netflix shows actually earn you money to spend with the people with whom you have a genuine connection?

I'm Rebecca Bardess. I was one of the first 25 bloggers in the world and one of the pioneers of both Internet Marketing and Social Media. I've witnessed this space become increasingly remote and fake. This isn't the vision we had at the start.

So, I'm building something different.

IAM combines personal development and entrepreneurship for indie Creators, Creatives, and Home Business Owners with support, accountability, and genuine community. And you don't have to be perfect. We're all about imperfection practice, as were the 'Penny Universities' established in coffee houses, run in many cases by women, in 17th and 18th century England. These were the predecessors of the Salons in France, again often run by women.

The rule observed by most of these coffee houses was: "No man of any station need give his place to a finer man". Let's replace 'man' with 'person' for 2023, but otherwise the rule stands. Whether you are, in the words of a friend of mine, fresh out of Yale or fresh out of jail you're welcome, as long as you bring respect and a will to improve.

And, yes, I also have a trusty band of robots to help me support our membership. They're not just generic ChatGPT prompts. They're digital chums, designed with care, who are driven to help you succeed and be joyful. You can doomscroll elsewhere, but here you'll bring imagination, creativity, wonder, and imperfection practice to all you do. Here, you will face your dragons, share your triumphs, and remember how to human again.
